Claude is an AI assistant by Anthropic — founded in 2021 by former OpenAI researchers. The model family consists of three tiers: Haiku (fast, free), Sonnet (all-rounder), and Opus (most powerful model). Claude 4 Opus is as of 2026 the strongest available model for complex tasks.

Claude 4 Opus excels with long documents (200,000 token context), nuanced analysis, creative writing, and security-critical code. Answers are more precise and differentiated than other models — especially for ethical reasoning and complex argumentation. Weaknesses: no native image generation feature and fewer third-party integrations than ChatGPT.

Pricing and plans

Claude is free with access to Claude Haiku. Claude Pro costs $20/month and provides full access to Claude Opus — the most powerful model. Claude Team costs from $20/user/month billed annually ($25/user/month billed monthly). Claude is also available via the Anthropic API on a pay-per-use basis.
