We measure the entry prices of 72 AI tools every day and derive a price index – over a fixed basket, calculated separately per currency. The USD entry prices of 46 continuously monitored AI tools have risen by 7.0% since 15 July 2026.

How the index is calculated
The index follows the Jevons method: for each tool we form the ratio of current to starting price, then take the geometric mean. A doubling from €5 to €10 therefore weighs as much as one from €50 to €100 – the index measures price movement, not price level.
- Fixed basket: only the 64 tools observed continuously from the first to the last measurement day. 8 tools are excluded because they joined later or dropped out temporarily.
- Currencies are never converted. A combined EUR/USD index would report exchange-rate movements as price changes.
- We measure the cheapest regularly bookable paid tier, monthly billing, list price without discounts.
- A new price only counts as a change after several stable measurement days – this filters mis-measurements but delays real changes by a few days.

Limits: The index covers 56 measurement days. That is enough to say what has moved since measurement began, but not yet a statement about the year. The series grows daily.
